As your mom’s health worsens, she has a harder time with hygiene and grooming. While it’s clear she needs help with bathing, dressing, and other personal care needs, she doesn’t want you helping. It’s time for your family to look at personal care at home.

Assistance With Toileting

After washing her hair, the caregiver will help her dry off and apply moisturizer. Her caregiver then helps her choose her clothing for the day.

Reminders to Take Medications

Given that your mom’s doctor prescribed medications to help her with her chronic health issues. While her personal care aide can remind her to take her medications, the caregiver cannot administer them. If your mom needs injectable medications or IV medications, a personal care aide cannot do them.

Help With Dressing

Once your mom’s dried and knows what she wants to wear, her personal care aide will help her get dressed. Her caregiver can button buttons, snap snaps, and zip zippers. If your mom needs her shoes tied, her caregiver helps her.

Help With Skin and Nails

When it comes to nail care, her personal care aides help her. Your mom’s caregiver can trim her finger and toe nails, apply nail polish if desired, and moisturize the cuticles.

Your mom’s caregiver can apply skin cream to your mom’s feet, hands, and the rest of her body. But, if there are sores or infections, your mom’s personal care aide has to alert you. The care aides cannot clean wounds. Instead, home health care aides are needed.
