As a family carer, you spent a lot of time, helping out, cleaning up, and running errands. Grocery trips use up a lot of your time. You have your parents’ home to stock up, but you also have your own.
You’re shopping for two households at once, and it’s hard to keep track. It’s also hard to help your mom pick out items when you’re also picking out your own. How can you simplify these grocery trips and gain more free time?
Create Organized Lists
Create a shopping list for each household and organize it by the store’s arrangement. If the store starts in the produce area, start your list with produce. As you shop, everything will be in order, which makes it harder to forget items as you shop.
If possible, use the store’s website to find the exact locations for items you need. Some stores will tell you the aisle number and shelf number to speed up your shopping experience.
Have alternative items noted on the list just in case. If you need whole garlic cloves and the store is out of them, decide if crushed garlic in tubes would work. If not, will the recipe work with garlic powder?
See if the Store Offers Online Ordering
Does the local grocery store offer online ordering? It saves a lot of time paying the small fee and having a store worker shop for you. Put in notes to ensure you get the right items when you have coupons or for the quality you expect. The shopper shops for you. If something is unavailable, you’ll get an alert and the option to choose something similar. Once complete, your order is totaled, your card is charged, and everything is put into bags.
When you arrive, the order is brought out to your car and loaded for you. You don’t have to get out of your car, search for items, stand in line, and wait for your groceries to be scanned and bagged. With all the time you save, you’ll have free time.
